Bible Reading

E100 Bible Reading Challenge

2011 saw the 400th anniversary of the printing of the King James Version of the Bible. To celebrate this, and encourage people to engage afresh with the Bible, the E100 Bible Reading Challenge was set up. You can find it here:

It encourages those who don’t already, to start reading the bible, using the 100 ‘essential’ readings suggested.

The programme is flexible; it can be used by individuals but it is more powerful when a group of people read the passages and engage with them together. The scriptures were intended to be read together.

There are notes available, to go with the readings which you may find useful.  If you’d like to be part of a group to read with, please have a word with Peter Hemming:

  • Email Peter Hemming
  • 0113 278 2735

I hope this scheme will encourage people to develop a regular habit of spending more time with God, reading the Bible and praying.

Daily Bible Reading: The Bible Reading Fellowship

Bible Reading Fellowship notes are available three times a year from Hilary Larkin, 0113  278 2391. So, if you are looking for some accessible notes to help you get into the habit of reading your Bible every day, then please get in touch with Hilary – you even get a discount by ordering a year ahead.

If you’d like to get notes daily electronically, then visit this web page,  where you will be guided as to how to subscribe.

Daily Bible Reading: Scripture Union Bible Reading notes

There are also the Scripture Union notes available from the SU Word Live website. The notes are available ‘free’, though I’d strongly encourage anyone to subscribe.

If you’d like the notes in ‘hard copy’ they can be ordered from Scripture Union; they are cheaper to order direct from SU. than elsewhere.

                    Thought for the Month

“Lord God of surprises, we thank you that you know each one of us

and you call us to humble obedience to your will.

Give us that readiness to hear, accept and follow

your purposes for our lives. Amen”

A prayer by Archbishop John Sentamu
