Funeral Service at St Chad’s
If you would like to arrange a funeral for someone who lived in the St Chad’s parish, we are here to support you every step of the way. Funerals can be held either in the church or the crematorium. Most of the funeral services at the Church are followed by cremation at Lawnswood. The parish centre is just next to the church and well equipped for serving refreshments after the service with local caterers practised in offering this service. To arrange the funeral, do get in touch first with our Parish Administrator, Christine Khullar, at office@stchads.co.uk, 0113 2744322 to check availability and eligibility, and our Vicar will be in touch to discuss options for the service with you. In the meantime, you may find this Church of England website helpful in your planning:

Caring pastoral support is available at this difficult time and for the long haul, recognising that the death of a loved one can be an acutely painful experience and that the loss will always be there.

The Churchyard and Garden of Rest at St Chad’s
There is very little room remaining in the Churchyard at St Chad’s for burials and eligibility depends on being resident in the parish or regular attendance at the church. The Garden of Rest is at the top end of the Churchyard at St Chad’s. It is a peaceful, well-maintained area that has been set apart as a memorial garden. If you wish for a loved one’s ashes to be buried in the Garden of Rest Christine Khullar in the Parish Office can give you an idea of the overall cost of an interment, and also the price of a stone marker and memorial plaque if you would like these as well.
For the benefit of all who visit, there are strict regulations governing memorial stones and grave decorations in the Churchyard. We want the Churchyard to be a beautiful and peaceful place in which to cherish the memory of those who have died. We invite all members of the local community to support us in this, and warmly welcome anyone who regularly visits a graveside to join the Green Team’s regular work parties in the Churchyard, starting in the Spring and finishing in the late Autumn getting ready for winter. Find out more about our churchyard.
Memorial Book
For all those who are bereaved, if you would like us to pray for you, please drop us a line. If you wish for a loved one’s name to be placed in the St Chad’s memorial book, this is offered free of charge to anyone who had the service at St Chad’s. All we need is the person’s full name and the date they died, and we will add that person to the book. Here is a list of existing entries.
Bereavement service (known also as the All Souls service)
We have an annual bereavement service at St Chad’s. This is normally held on a Sunday evening at the end of October or beginning of November. We remember everyone who has died in the past year at this service. If you are planning to come to this service, Please let the Vicar or Christine in the Parish Office have the name of the person in whose memory you are attending so that we don’t leave anyone out in our remembering.
