All-Age Music Group at St Chad’s, Far Headingley
Our growing All-Age Music Group is going from strength to strength, now with 25+ members ranging in age from 4 to 80+ years.
The group play at the 9.30am Sunday Service 4 or 5 times a year, and practice immediately after the 9.30am service (during coffee time) for about 4 weeks before each date scheduled to play.
“It’s been very exciting to be able to bring people together to express love and gratitude to God through music.” – Group leader, Kath Owen
All are welcome to join the group. Some instruments are available to use and borrow (eg; glockenspiels and small guitars).
For last year’s Mother’s Day service, group member Matt Carmichael wrote new lyrics based on passages about mothers from the Bible (Hosea 11: 3-4; Deuteronomy 32: 11-12; Isaiah 66:13) to be sung to the beautiful Welsh folk tune, Suo Gan. Other songs played to date include: Spirit of God, All You Need Is Love, Give Thanks, Here I Am to Worship, and a jaunty rendition of Give Me Oil In My Lamp.
At Christmas the music group chased away the winter chills with the Calypso Carol, Silent Night (accompanied by Mia on her great grandfather’s xylophone!), Little Donkey and Jingle Bells.
