Save the Spire!
Our beautifully designed, octagonal 186-foot-high spire is a significant landmark in the parish and beyond. But it is sadly under threat – the passage of time and the changing climate mean that rainwater has penetrated the stonework, even finding its way down to the floor of the church. Essential re-pointing works are urgently needed.
The weathering is also affecting the bell tower from where on Sundays and Thursdays the bells ring out over the parish, part of the unique character of the St Chad’s area. You may even have explored the tower yourself as part of the Heritage Open Days and admired the views from high up.
So watch this space! Renovation plans are in hand and a major fundraising project begins 4th May 2025. Do get in touch if you can help.
